The MTB Disc Brake Everyone's Arguing About Right Now

We're putting the most exciting MTB disc brakes to the test in ENDURO issue #070, and we need your input. Tell us what really matters when it comes to braking performance.

Maximum stopping power, perfect modulation, complete control. Sounds like the ideal mountain bike brake, right? But which disc brake actually delivers out on the trail? And does spending more money really get you better performance? We want to find out. And honestly, we need your help to do it right. For the upcoming ENDURO issue #070, we're putting the most exciting MTB disc brakes on the market through their paces. Take part in our survey and help shape the big group test by telling us what actually matters to you when it comes to braking performance. ### Maximum Power or Maximum Control? Why Not Both Here's the thing: raw stopping power alone doesn't make a great brake. Think about it. A brake that grabs hard but gives you zero feel is a brake that's going to put you on the ground when the trail gets loose and steep. So we're asking the questions that matter: - How precisely can you modulate that power when you're feathering the lever on a technical descent? - How much finger effort does the lever actually require after a long day of riding? - And how consistent is the performance when things really heat up on long descents? Those last two matter more than most riders realize. A brake that feels crisp in the parking lot can turn mushy and vague after a few thousand feet of vertical drop. That's where the real test begins. ### Into the Lab, Not Just the Trails To get real answers, we're not just riding these brakes on dirt. As part of this group test, we'll also be taking them into the test lab. Trail feel tells you one story. Lab data tells you another. Put them together and you get the full picture. We'll be measuring heat management, lever consistency under load, and how each brake holds up when you push it past the comfort zone. Because let's be honest, the best brake isn't the one that works perfectly on a smooth fire road. It's the one that still feels predictable when you're two miles into a white-knuckle descent and your hands are screaming. > "A great brake doesn't just stop you. It tells you exactly what's happening between your tire and the dirt." That's the standard we're holding these brakes to. ### Who Will Take the Win? Can the winner of our last group test defend their title? Or has the competition stepped up and raised the bar? There's a lot of new hardware out there, and some of it is genuinely impressive. But impressive on paper and impressive on the trail are two different things. Find out in our big MTB brake group test in ENDURO issue #070. ### Now It's Your Turn Which MTB brakes have impressed you? What matters most to you? And what does a brake need to deliver to earn the title of best on the market? Your opinion matters here. By taking part in our survey, you'll help us bring the mountain biking community's perspective into our group test. Because beyond lab results and our own testing experience, we want to know what really matters to you out on the trail. Maybe it's lever feel. Maybe it's pad life. Maybe it's how easy the thing is to bleed in your garage on a Tuesday night. Whatever it is, tell us. Your input genuinely shapes how we test and what we report back. Thanks for your support. See you on the trail. Your ENDURO test crew
