The Best MTB Disc Brake Isn't Obvious โ€” And We Need Your Take

We're testing the most exciting MTB disc brakes for ENDURO issue #070 โ€” and we need your input. Which brake really delivers on the trail, and does spending more actually buy better performance? Take our survey and help shape the results.

Maximum stopping power, perfect modulation, complete control. Sounds like the ideal MTB brake, right? But which disc brake actually delivers when you're three miles into a steep descent and your fingers are screaming? And here's the question that keeps nagging at us: does spending more money really buy you better performance? We're about to find out. For the upcoming ENDURO issue #070, we're rounding up the most exciting MTB disc brakes on the market and putting them through their paces. But we don't want to do this alone. We want your input. ### Maximum Power or Maximum Control? Why Not Both? Here's the thing about braking. Raw stopping power gets all the glory, but it's only half the story. A brake that grabs hard but gives you zero feel is basically a light switch โ€” and nobody wants a light switch on a technical trail. So we're asking the questions that actually matter: - How precisely can you modulate that power when the trail gets loose? - How much finger effort does the lever demand on a long, brake-dragging descent? - And how consistent is the performance once things really heat up? Fade is the silent killer of confidence. You can have all the bite in the world at the top of the run, but if your lever goes soft halfway down, none of it counts. ### Into the Lab, Not Just the Trails We're not stopping at trail impressions. As part of this group test, the brakes are heading into the test lab too. Real-world feel matters, but so do the numbers โ€” and we want both sides of the story before we crown a winner. > "A great brake isn't the one that stops hardest. It's the one that makes you forget you're thinking about braking at all." That's the standard we're holding these brakes to. ### Who Takes the Win? Can the winner of our last group test defend the title? Or has the competition caught up and raised the bar? That's what issue #070 will reveal. But lab results and our own trail time only tell part of it. ### Now It's Your Turn Which MTB brakes have genuinely impressed you out on the trail? What matters most when you're choosing a brake โ€” power, modulation, lever feel, or price? And what does a brake actually need to earn the title of best on the market? Your opinion matters here. By taking part in our survey, you help bring the mountain biking community's perspective into our group test. Because beyond the lab data and our own testing, we want to know what really counts for you when you're riding. So tell us what you think. Your feedback helps shape the test โ€” and honestly, it makes the results more useful for everyone. Thanks for your support. See you out there, Your ENDURO test crew
