Which MTB disc brake really delivers on the trail, and does spending more actually buy better performance? We're putting the market's best brakes to the test and want your input to shape the results.
Maximum stopping power, perfect modulation, complete control. Sounds like the dream MTB brake, right? But which disc brake actually delivers when you're barreling down a rocky chute? And here's the question that keeps riders up at night: does spending more really get you better performance?
We're about to find out, and we need your help. For the upcoming group test, we're rounding up the most exciting MTB disc brakes on the market and putting them through their paces. But this isn't just our test. We want your voice in it too.
### Maximum Power or Maximum Control? Why Not Both
Raw stopping power alone doesn't make a great brake. Think about it. A brake that grabs hard but gives you zero feel is a brake that's going to put you over the bars on a loose corner.
So what are we actually measuring? A few things that matter on every ride:
- How precisely can you modulate the power through the lever stroke?
- How much finger effort does the lever demand on a long, steep descent?
- How consistent is performance when things really heat up after minutes of hard braking?
- Does the brake fade, or does it hold its bite from the first turn to the last?
To answer those questions honestly, we're not just riding the trails. We're also taking every brake into the test lab for controlled, repeatable data. Trail feel matters, but numbers don't lie either.
### Who Will Take the Win?
Can the winner of our last group test defend the title? Or has the competition stepped up and raised the bar? That's the fun part. Every season, brake manufacturers push harder, and this year's field looks stacked.
You'll find the full results in our big MTB brake group test in the upcoming issue. We're not spoiling it here.
### Now It's Your Turn
Which MTB brakes have impressed you out on the trail? What matters most when you're choosing a brake? And what does a brake need to deliver to earn the title of best on the market?
> "Beyond lab results and our own testing experience, we want to know what really matters to you out on the trail."
That's why we're running a survey. Your input helps us bring the MTB community's perspective into the group test. Maybe you've been running the same brake for five years and love it. Maybe you just swapped and noticed something nobody's talking about. Either way, we want to hear it.
So take a minute, share your thoughts, and help shape the test. Your opinion genuinely matters here, and it makes the results more useful for everyone who rides.
Thanks for your support. See you on the trail.
