We're putting the most exciting MTB disc brakes to the test in ENDURO issue #070, and we need your input. Tell us what really matters when you're braking hard on the trail.
Maximum stopping power, perfect modulation, complete control. Sounds like the dream MTB brake, right? But which disc brake actually delivers when you're bombing down a rocky descent at 30 mph? And here's the question that keeps coming up: does spending more money really get you better performance?
We're about to find out. And honestly, we need your help to do it right.
For the upcoming ENDURO issue #070, we're putting the most exciting MTB disc brakes on the market through their paces. But this isn't just our test. We want you involved. Take part in our survey and help shape the big group test by telling us what actually matters to you when it comes to braking performance.
### Maximum Power or Maximum Control? Why Not Both
Here's the thing about brake testing. Raw stopping power alone doesn't make a great brake. You can have all the bite in the world, but if you can't control it, you're just skidding into a tree.
So we're asking the harder questions:
- How precisely can you modulate that power on technical terrain?
- How much finger effort does the lever actually require after an hour of hard riding?
- And how consistent is the performance when things really heat up on long, steep descents?
Those are the details that separate a good brake from a great one. And they're exactly what we're measuring.
### Into the Lab We Go
To get real answers, we're not just riding these brakes on the trails. We're taking them into the test lab too. Trail feel matters, but so do the numbers. Heat management, lever throw, consistency under load. When you combine real-world riding with controlled lab data, you get a much clearer picture of what's actually happening at the caliper.
### Who Takes the Win?
Can the winner of our last group test defend the title? Or has the competition stepped up and raised the bar? That's the fun part. Every year, brakes get lighter, more powerful, and more expensive. But not every upgrade translates to a better ride. Sometimes the $300 set outperforms the $600 one. Sometimes it doesn't. We'll find out in issue #070.
> "A brake isn't just about stopping. It's about confidence. When you trust your brakes, you ride faster, brake later, and have more fun. That's what we're really testing."
### Now It's Your Turn
Which MTB brakes have impressed you out on the trail? What matters most when you're choosing a set? And what does a brake need to deliver to earn the title of best on the market?
Your opinion matters here. By taking part in our survey, you'll help us bring the MTB community's perspective into our group test. Because beyond lab results and our own testing experience, we want to know what really matters to you when you're out there riding.
So tell us what you think. Which brakes have earned your trust? Which ones let you down? And what would you want to see tested?
Thanks for your support. We couldn't do this without you.
See you soon,
Your ENDURO test crew
