We're testing the most exciting MTB disc brakes for ENDURO issue #070 โ and we need your input. Tell us what really matters when you're braking hard on the trail.
Maximum stopping power. Perfect modulation. Complete control. Sounds like the dream MTB brake, right? But here's the thing โ out on the trail, which disc brake actually delivers? And does spending more really get you better performance, or just a lighter wallet?
We're about to find out. And honestly, we need your help to do it right.
For the upcoming ENDURO issue #070, we're rounding up the most exciting MTB disc brakes on the market and putting them through their paces. But before we do, we want to hear from you. What actually matters to you when you're grabbing a handful of brake on a steep, loose chute?
### Power Alone Doesn't Make a Great Brake
Here's the thing about braking performance โ raw stopping power is only part of the story. Think about it like driving a car with a touchy throttle. All that power means nothing if you can't control it.
So we're asking the questions that actually matter on the trail:
- How precisely can you modulate that power before the rear wheel breaks loose?
- How much finger effort does the lever demand on a long, arm-pumping descent?
- And how consistent is the performance when things really heat up after a mile of continuous braking?
Those last few hundred feet of a steep descent are where brakes either earn their keep or fade into oblivion. We want to know which ones hold their ground.
### Into the Lab We Go
To get real answers, we're not just riding these brakes on the trails. As part of this group test, we're taking them into the test lab too. Lab data tells us what's happening when the heat builds up. Trail time tells us how it actually feels under your fingers. You need both to get the full picture.
> "A brake that tests well but feels vague on the trail is still a brake you won't trust when it counts."
That's the gap we're trying to close with this test.
### Can the Champ Hold the Crown?
Here's a question worth asking: can the winner of our last group test defend the title? Or has the competition stepped up and raised the bar? The brake market moves fast, and what was best two years ago might not hold up today. We'll find out in issue #070.
### Now It's Your Turn
This is where you come in. Which MTB brakes have impressed you out on the trail? What matters most when you're choosing a brake? And what does a brake need to deliver to earn the title of best on the market?
Your opinion matters. By taking part in our survey, you'll help bring the MTB community's perspective into our group test. Because beyond lab results and our own testing experience, we want to know what really matters to you when the trail gets steep and the speed picks up.
So take the survey, share your thoughts, and help shape the test. We couldn't do it without you.
Thanks for your support โ see you on the trail.
