Canyon's new Lux Trail 2027 gets more travel (140/125mm) yet drops 200g from the frame. We tested the CF 9 to see if it's the ultimate downcountry bike. Price: $6,499.
### First Impressions of the Canyon Lux Trail 2027
When Canyon says they've made the Lux Trail lighter *and* more capable, you can't help but be curious. The 2027 model packs 140mm of front travel (up 20mm) and 125mm at the rear (up 11mm), yet the frame is a claimed 200g lighter than before. That's like adding a spare tube's worth of travel while shedding a water bottle's weight. Our top-spec CF 9 test bike came in at 28.7 pounds (13.0 kg) in size L and costs $6,499 (โฌ5,999 converted to USD).
### The Downcountry Dilemma
Downcountry bikes are a tricky breed. They need to climb like an XC race rig but descend like a trail bike. Canyon's goal was to blend the climbing efficiency of the previous Lux Trail with the descending chops of the Neuron CF. Did they pull it off? We spent some time on the new Lux Trail to find out.
### Frame and Geometry: Leaner and Meaner
The heart of the new Lux Trail is a completely redesigned carbon frame. Canyon claims it weighs just 4.08 pounds (1,850 g) in size M, which is impressive for a bike with this much travel. The geometry has also been overhauled with a slacker head angle, longer reach, and a steeper seat tube โ all aimed at keeping you comfortable when the trail points down.
> "The new Lux Trail is proof that you can have your cake and eat it too โ it's a bike that begs to be pushed on the descents yet doesn't punish you on the climbs."
### Spec Highlights and Practical Details
Our CF 9 test bike came with a solid build kit: Fox 34 Performance Elite fork, Fox Float DPS shock, Shimano XT/SLX drivetrain, and DT Swiss wheels. Canyon also included thoughtful touches like a frame storage compartment and an integrated tool โ handy for quick trailside adjustments. However, we did notice the lack of frame protection on the seatstay and main pivot, which could be a concern for long-term durability.

### Who Is This Bike For?
If you're a rider who loves to pedal efficiently but doesn't want to shy away from technical descents, the Lux Trail could be your perfect match. It's designed for those who want one bike that can do it all โ from fast XC loops to rowdy trail rides. The lighter frame and increased travel make it a compelling option in the crowded downcountry market.
### The Verdict (So Far)
We've only had a few rides on the Lux Trail, but initial impressions are positive. It climbs surprisingly well for a bike with 140mm up front, and the descents feel more controlled than its predecessor. The weight savings are noticeable when accelerating out of corners. We'll be putting more miles on it to see how it holds up in the long run, but for now, Canyon seems to have nailed the downcountry brief.
