Canyon's New Lux Trail: The 28.6-Pound Bike That Might Change Downcountry

Canyon's new Lux Trail 2027 aims to redefine downcountry with 140/125mm travel, a lighter frame, and geometry that climbs as well as it descends. We take a first look.

The new Canyon Lux Trail 2027 is here, and it's designed to climb faster, inspire more confidence on the descents, and even weigh less than its predecessor. With 140/125 mm of travel, a completely revised geometry, and a host of refined details, Canyon is taking aim at the downcountry segment. We took a closer look at this lightweight trail bike. ### The Downcountry Dilemma Hardly any bike category is evolving as quickly as downcountry. Today's bikes are expected to climb with maximum efficiency and minimal effort, yet feel far more capable than disguised XC bikes once the trail turns technical. That's exactly the balance Canyon is aiming to strike with the all-new Lux Trail. To achieve it, the Koblenz-based brand has given their lightweight trail bike not only more suspension travel and a significantly more descent-focused geometry, but also a frame that is claimed to be 200 g lighter than before. The goal is clear: combine the climbing efficiency and low weight of the previous Lux Trail with the confident descending performance of the Neuron CF. Our top-spec test bike tips the scales at just 28.6 pounds and is priced at $6,499. The result is intended to be one of the lightest, yet also one of the most capable downcountry bikes on the market. Does Canyon deliver? Here are our first impressions of the new Canyon Lux Trail 2027. ### Key Facts and First Impressions - Full carbon frame - 140/125 mm travel (front/rear) - 28.6 pounds in size L - 29-inch wheel setup - Five sizes, XS to XL **Highs:** - Affordable entry price - Lightweight frame - Frame storage compartment - Integrated tool **Lows:** - No frame protection on the seatstay or main pivot ### The New Canyon Lux Trail 2027 in Detail At the heart of the new Lux Trail is a completely redesigned carbon frame. Despite the increase in suspension travel—now 140 mm at the front, up by 20 mm, and 125 mm at the rear, an increase of 11 mm—Canyon claims the frame weighs just 4.08 pounds in size M, around 200 g less than its predecessor. At the same time, it retains its Category 3 certification. Alongside the extra travel, Canyon has significantly updated the geometry with a much stronger focus on trail performance. The head angle is slacker, the reach is longer, and the seat angle is steeper, all aimed at keeping the front wheel planted on steep descents while maintaining a comfortable climbing position. > "The new Lux Trail is proof that you don't have to sacrifice climbing prowess for descending capability. It's the quiver-killer we've been waiting for." — Canyon product manager Other notable details include internal frame storage, a integrated tool, and a threaded bottom bracket. The bike also features a flip chip that allows you to adjust the geometry between two settings: a steeper, more agile mode and a slacker, more stable mode. So, does Canyon deliver? From our first impressions, the new Lux Trail is a serious contender in the downcountry market. It's light, capable, and packed with thoughtful features. We'll be putting it through its paces on our local trails to see if it lives up to the hype. Stay tuned for a full review. For more information, visit Canyon's website (link nofollow).
