Canyon's New Lux Trail 2027: More Travel, Less Weight—But Is It Worth It?

Canyon's new Lux Trail 2027 aims to redefine downcountry with more travel, less weight, and a sharper geometry. We share our first impressions and key specs.

Canyon's new Lux Trail 2027 is turning heads in the downcountry scene. It's designed to climb faster, boost confidence on descents, and even shed weight compared to its predecessor. With 140/125 mm of travel, a completely revised geometry, and a host of refined details, Canyon is clearly gunning for the downcountry segment. We took a closer look at this lightweight trail bike to see if it lives up to the hype. ### First Impressions The top-spec Canyon Lux Trail CF 9 2027 comes with 140/125 mm of travel (front/rear), weighs in at 28.7 pounds in size L, and costs $6,499. At first glance, it's a compelling package for riders who want a quiver-killer that can handle both climbs and descents with ease. Hardly any bike category is evolving as quickly as downcountry. Today's bikes are expected to climb with maximum efficiency and minimal effort, yet feel far more capable than disguised XC bikes once the trail turns technical. That's exactly the balance Canyon aims to strike with the all-new Lux Trail. To achieve it, the Koblenz-based brand has given their lightweight trail bike not only more suspension travel and a significantly more descent-focused geometry, but also a frame that is claimed to be 200 g lighter than before. The goal is clear: combine the climbing efficiency and low weight of the previous Lux Trail with the confident descending performance of the Neuron CF. Our top-spec test bike tips the scales at just 28.7 pounds and is priced at $6,499. The result is intended to be one of the lightest, yet also one of the most capable downcountry bikes on the market. Does Canyon deliver? Here are our first impressions of the new Canyon Lux Trail 2027. ### The New Canyon Lux Trail 2027 in Detail At the heart of the new Lux Trail is a completely redesigned carbon frame. Despite the increase in suspension travel—now 140 mm at the front (up by 20 mm) and 125 mm at the rear (an increase of 11 mm)—Canyon claims the frame weighs just 4.08 pounds in size M, around 200 g less than its predecessor. At the same time, it retains its Category 3 certification. Alongside the extra travel, Canyon has significantly updated the geometry with a much stronger focus on trail performance. ### Key Specs at a Glance - Full carbon frame - 140/125 mm travel (front/rear) - 28.7 pounds in size L - 29-inch wheels - Five sizes, XS to XL ### What We Like - Affordable entry price for a carbon downcountry bike - Lightweight frame that doesn't sacrifice durability - Frame storage compartment for tools and snacks - Integrated tool for quick trailside adjustments ### What Could Be Better - No frame protection on the seatstay or main pivot—a minor oversight that could lead to wear over time ### The Verdict Canyon has managed to shave weight while adding travel, which is no small feat. The Lux Trail 2027 promises to be a versatile rig for riders who want one bike to do it all. We'll be putting it through its paces on our home trails to see if it truly delivers on its promises.
