DHaRCO Enduro bib shorts combine an integrated RHEON back protector with a comfortable Coolmax seat pad. We test this two-in-one solution for comfort, protection, and storage on the trail.
### Bib Shorts Meet Back Protector
Bib shorts or back protector? What if you could have both in one piece of gear? The DHaRCO Enduro bib shorts promise just that—a high level of comfort plus added protection on the trail. We took them for a spin to see how well this combo really works.
### What You Get for Your Money
At $169.99, these bibs offer serious value. A standalone back protector with similar specs often costs the same or more. For that price, you get:
- **Integrated CE Level 1 back protection** using RHEON polymer
- **A Coolmax performance seat pad** for all-day comfort
- **Multiple storage pockets** (rear and side)
- **A fly opening** on the men's version
The total weight with the protector is 1.17 pounds (size XL). The protector itself measures 15.9 x 6.1 inches and weighs just 0.55 pounds.

### Design and Materials
DHaRCO built these bibs from a breathable nylon-elastane mesh fabric. The RHEON back protector is the star—it's an impact-reactive polymer that stays soft and flexible during normal riding but stiffens instantly on impact. You can machine-wash the shorts on a gentle cycle at 86°F, but remember to remove the protector first and clean it by hand.

### On the Trail Performance
Right out of the bag, these bibs impressed with their fit. The straps, length, and overall feel are well-balanced. On the bike, the seat pad sits exactly where it should, and the bib stays comfortable even during long pedaling sessions. For mountain bike bibs worn under trousers, the pad is relatively thick—your sit bones will thank you.
The integrated RHEON back protector is the highlight. It sits neatly against your back and is barely noticeable while riding. In fact, it's one of the most unobtrusive back protectors we've tested. It doesn't get in the way on the trail and combines protection with excellent comfort.
### Storage: Plenty but Not Perfect
The deep rear pockets keep your snacks secure, but there's a catch. On our 6-foot-3 tester wearing size XL, the pockets end right at waistband height. That means energy bars can slip under the waistband or get uncomfortably pinched while pedaling. It's also a shame there's no zippered pocket for a house key or small essentials.
The side pockets use a cargo-bib design that looks practical. In reality, though, they're hard to access under tight-fitting MTB trousers. You'd need to pull your trousers down or take them off entirely to reach them.
### The Biggest Drawback
For day rides, weekends, or short trips, the integrated solution works really well. You get extra protection without needing a separate protector vest. But on longer bike holidays, it only partially replaces a standalone back protector. You're unlikely to wear the same bib for several days in a row, so you'd still need a backup.
### Final Verdict
The DHaRCO Enduro bib shorts are a clever concept that mostly delivers. The integrated back protector is comfortable and effective, the seat pad is plush, and the value is hard to beat. Just be aware of the pocket limitations and the fact that it's best for shorter rides. If you're after a two-in-one solution for day trips, these bibs are worth a serious look.
